Perfection

The quest for perfection often leads to lower quality of life. What a frustrating conundrum!!

So many of us are seeking “better”....

Better relationships...

Better sex...

Better jobs...

Better bodies...

Better parenting styles...

Better self-esteem...

Better... better... better...

These desires to be “better” can lead to being “bitter”... with not much in our lives feeling good enough. Unchecked, this can lead to a higher likelihood of experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The drive for progress most of us feel isn’t inherently bad. In fact, it’s what makes us as humans push towards new possibilities and experiences that do in fact bring joy.

At the same time, this drive is best tempered with things like:

  • acceptance of what currently is,

  • realistic expectations,

  • patience,

  • self-compassion,

  • gratitude,

  • positive reframes,

  • grace for others, and

  • mindfulness.

Don’t let your efforts to be “better”… turn your day sour.

What are ways you balance the drive to improve... with the hope of enjoying the “here and now?”
